My laptop has a Wndows 7 OS, Home Premium. It has Microsoft security essentials installed in it. I was just wondering is it good to install another anti virus like eset nod32?

please and thank you

Chosen Answer:

I would uninstall MSE
Here are your best alternatives to MSE as they all perform at a higher level.
Free Category: #1 Avast #2 Avira #3 AVG
Paid Subscription Category: #1 BitDefender #2 Kaspersky #3 F-Secure #4 Eset nod32

What is interesting is there are many quality Antivirus’s I didn’t mention that performed the best in a particular category and the above ratings are reflective of the summary/overall review. You must ponder which Anti-virus fits your particular needs.

. *Only one Antivirus should be installed due to complex issue’s that can leave your network and computer defenseless but you can and should use http://www.malwarebytes.org/ in addition to any antivirus.

I’m trying to find a software to clean my computer without erasing important or vital information the computer needs to function. I have tried some of the so called free dowloads but they just scan & tell you that you have so many infections I would like to find one that actually would get rid of the infections & let you see if your computer actually works better afterward. That would be the true test to see if you’d like to buy a product or not.

Chosen Answer:

What is it?
Malware – short for malicious software, it is used to cause damage to a single computer, server, or computer network. Computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, and other malicious and unwanted software are all types of malware that can infect your computer. But it is worth noting that very few malware instances are actual viruses (less than 20%).

————————————–…

What to do about it?
A virus scanner is the most common tool for prevention. These scanners have “real-time protection” enabled; which scans the program before it runs and if the program has malicious code than it is stopped before the chance of execution. Common sense is another big factor in determining whether or not malware gets into your computer. If an executable computer program is attached to your e-mail and you are unsure of the source, then it should be deleted immediately. Do not download any applications or executable files from unknown sources, and be careful when trading files with other users.

————————————–…

What about some free protection?

***NOTE*** Let it be known that you must have only one virus protection / firewall working on your computer or serious conflicts will occur! You MUST un-install your current virus protection suite before continuing installing another. “But what if my old one is already expired?” It does not matter, divorce it anyway…

————————————–…

Anti-Virus…

I would go with Avira. It has the best ratings out of all the “free AV protection”, and even some of the paid for ones.
Here is the link for that:

http://www.free-av.com/

————————————–…

Adware and Spyware…
This program only offers on demand scan I would recommend it. (Use at least one AS/A)
Here is the link for that:

http://www.superantispyware.com/

————————————–…

Stopping it before it comes…
Here is the link for that:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareb…

————————————–…

Firewall…
Link for that…

http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

————————————–…

Rootkit…
I would use:
Sysinternals RootkitRevealer, Panda Anti Rootkit and BlackLight
Links:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysin…

http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/d…

http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/

————————————–…

You want to make sure that all you programs are constantly updated and patched to prevent attackers from entering through software weaknesses.

Regards,

I just need a way to remove it because it is getting annoying.

Chosen Answer:

This sounds like it might be malware.

You should be able to get rid of it for free with the F-Secure Online Malware Scanner: http://www.f-secure.com/en_US/security/security-lab/tools-and-services/online-scanner/ It’s free and no download is required.

About 20% of the programs we scan have some form of malware. And 80% have tracking cookies the PC owner isn’t aware of, so scanning your PC is a good idea for everyone.

If you think you gave the program your credit card information, contact your credit card company immediately.

You could avoid most problems like this by running an Internet security suite — make sure you find a product that includes anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall.

Nokia N73 is my unit, what anti-virus is more efferctive and recomended.

Chosen Answer:

The Nokia N73 uses the Symbian S60 R3 operating system. Unlike the R2 version, which is seriously plagued by viruses, the R3 version is much more secure and is incompatible with the R2 version. There are no viruses for the R3 version, so you don’t really need an anti-virus program for it.

Still, if you insist on wasting your money and buying one (there are no free ones), F-Secure Anti-Virus Mobile is pretty good.
www.bollyfm.net is free movie websites can cause computer’s to go slow besides limewire is there a website that you could download free music without complications, viruses

Chosen Answer:

Siteadvisor.com says bollyfm is ok

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/bollyfm.net

Just make sure you are protected.

PCTools products do get good reviews. The good thing is they have free versions of their products. They work great. Spyware Doctor from the Google pack is a must. I highly recommend it. I bought Webroots Spysweeper and spyware doctor finds stuff spysweeper does not. Having both is a perfect combo and I recommend running two anti-spyware products.

PCTools Anti-Virus

PCTools Threatfire – Malware Protection
This free tool makes your current anti-virus better.

PCTools Firewall Plus

The Google Pack includes a free starter edition of Spyware Doctor.

You can do an online scan for viruses and spyware for free from the major vendors. Some of these require Internet Explorer to run because of Active-X

ANTI-SPYWARE INFORMATION
Its good to run two anti-spywares even if some extra resources are taken.

SuperAntiSpyware does an excellent job. AVG’s full version gets great reviews.

Adaware

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware

Microsoft Defender

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Anti-Spyware for a cost.
Personally I bought Webroot’s Spysweeper, their product is great and well worth the money. Watch Best Buy ads because sometimes it goes on sale for to .

Webroot Spysweeper

PCTools Spyware Doctor

ANTI-VIRUS INFORMATION
There are free anti-virus scanners availble. They work well. I like AVG and PCTools anti-viruses the best of the free anti-virus programs.

If you are not willing to spend money it is good to have some kind of anti-virus software

avg

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

avast

This is my recommendation for anti-virus. Free are good, but they are not as accurate as the top paid anti-virus software

I try to use my Disk Defragmentor and it says Disk Defragmentor could not start. What should I do?
I shut off the computer and restarted and still the same thing.
I used disk clean up and still the same thing.
Any other suggestions?

Chosen Answer:

My best guess maybe you do not have permission to defrag, or you have an infected computer and there are a lot of other functions you may not be able to perform.

1. Is your anti-virus software working, updated, and have you scanned your system the last several days?
2. Is your anti-virus software turned off and you are not aware of this malware malicious trick?
3. You may need to run checkdisk.
www.updatexp.com/windows-xp-chkdsk.html

My first suggestion if your anti-virus is up-to-date and you have run it recently, I would run an on-line malware scan to be certain it is not been secretly turned off.

ewido.com or f-secure are the on-line scanners I use see the links in Source below, or look them up with a websearch.

Also kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm a function that may assist you returning your defrag control… if it has been turned off by malicious software and you do not have any infections with either of the on-line scan websites.

If you are infected, then i would make a new post to receive more instructions on how to clean-up your system…

I also would like to ask a few more as well if you don’t mind?

Why do most phones require phone state and identity? What do they use it for?

What should I look for when trying to be safe when downloading apps? What makes these apps safe when they have crazy permissions like “can take over thewhole screen”Seeing things like this worry me.

So what I’m mainly asking is how should I go about downloading apps and knowing its safe?
